The Basics of the bagpipe are, compared to other instruments, complicated. There have been many ways to try and make their teaching easier but after 40 years of teaching I still consider the “old” way the best i.e. learn all the basics and their exercises then once you have mastered them go onto tunes. By that time you will be able to play all the movements required for the tunes (instead of having to learn new movements every 2nd bar!!)as well as being a competent sight reader of the musical notation. This whole process will take between 6 – 8 weeks. If you want to play a tune NOW then take up the guitar!

These lessons are meant as a guide if you cannot get a tutor.  Whilst they will get you on the right road it is always better to  have some face to face tuition from a qualified tutor. Remember our “Skype” lessons are free. Our new VIDEO lessons will be online in January 2012.
